Nkhwazi Primary School
Telescope Donation
July 23, 2001
Permission to Dream's first telescope donation in Africa was to the Nkhwazi Primary School in Lusaka, Zambia. Nkhwazi, which means 'Eagle' in the local language, is known as one of the best schools in Zambia. Led by head science teacher Mrs. Thomas (visible at extreme left of photo below), the school's students and teachers gratefully accepted the donation of the Tasco telescope in July 2001.

The donation was made possible by Cosmos Education, one of the partner organizations of Permission to Dream. Cosmos, led by Stanford graduate student Kevin Hand, conducts an annual ‘educational expedition’ across Southern and Eastern Africa. George Whitesides, Permission to Dream co-founder and project director, participated in the expedition in 2001 and made the donation.
