Camp Joan Mier

July 23, 2002

This enthusiastic camper checks out the beautiful full Moon to become a "lunar explorer"

Permission to Dream returned to Camp Joan Mier yet a third time on July 23, 2002.  This visit’s highlight was a nearly full moon, which shone brightly over the Pacific Ocean.  Each camper became a “lunar explorer” as he or she looked through the Permission to Dream telescopes.  PTD’s third visit was marked with a great presentation by Kim DeRose, a Los Angeles-area high school student and PTD volunteer.  Kim impressed the campers and counselors with a computer-animated video of the Mars Exploration Rover.

George Whitesides holds up binoculars so that this camper is able to see the Moon and be a "lunar explorer."

Margee helps campers use the PTD telescope.

Kim and two counselors made sure that members of their cabins saw the moon.

George, Kim, and Margee set up the telescopes and align the three viewfinders before beginning  their presentations.
